Charlotte City Council extends data center moratorium to October 18, 2027
The Charlotte City Council voted to adopt a measure extending the city's data center moratorium. The vote was unanimous, according to WBTV.
Why it matters. The WBTV report on the Charlotte vote quotes "We’re not ready to move forward as a city on this issue."

Iron County commissioners in Utah approve regulations for large data centers and end moratorium
Iron County commissioners approved new regulations for large data centers and energy projects on October 26, 2026. They also repealed the 180-day moratorium imposed May 26.
Why it matters. Paiute tribal council member Tamra Borchardt-Slayton spoke during a public hearing at an Iron County Commission meeting and said "Collaboration is not government-to-government consultation,".

FERC accepts PJM Large Load definition and Large Load Registry, rejects rest of PJM proposal
On October 9, 2026, FERC accepted PJM’s proposed definition of “Large Load”, a cumulative peak load of at least 50 MW at a single electrical site, and the Large Load Registry. FERC rejected the remainder of PJM’s proposal as an integrated package.
Why it matters. FERC directed PJM to file, within 30 days, a compliance filing limited to the Large Load definition and the Large Load Registry, in Docket No. ER26-3515-000.
