City Manager Dave Stockdale said the economic fallout could cost the city $6 million in direct financial losses.
Why it matters. Umatilla is an eastern Oregon city that welcomed some of the largest data centers in the state. Governor Kotek’s office said it "supports a pause so that Oregon’s policies continue to protect the public health and natural resources".

Memphis councilors reject 18-month data center moratorium and vote for a 135-day pause
Councilors in Memphis, Tennessee, were split 6-6 on a data center moratorium of up to 18 months put forward by councilor JB Smiley, with one member absent. The council instead voted for a 135-day pause on new data center applications; DatacenterDynamics reports a moratorium of up to 18 months; WSMV reported a 12-month moratorium; the figures differ.
Why it matters. Some Memphis councilors said a moratorium would be harmful to economic development in the area. The review commissioned by Paul Young, mayor of Memphis, is to develop recommendations for regulating large and hyperscale data centers in Memphis.
