Hermantown City Council unanimously approves Google data center agreements
The Hermantown City Council unanimously approved several key agreements for the Google data center. The 1.7 million-square-foot project is expected to need 500 MW of electricity.
Why it matters. Hermantown will receive an estimated $3 million annually in property tax revenue from the project. An opponent told the Hermantown City Council it had changed as little as possible to legally say that it listened.

TerraVolt Holdings secures option on 1,077 acres in Cassia County, Idaho, for a 240 MW data center campus
TerraVolt Holdings executed option agreements to purchase 1,077 acres in Cassia County, Idaho, outside the town of Declo. The campus is designed to support an initial 240 MW of dedicated on-site power generation.
Why it matters. TerraVolt Holdings says its gas-powered campus avoids the multi-year wait for large-load grid interconnections. The company says it holds a firm natural gas supply agreement of 55,000 MMBtu per day.

PJM refiles 6,831 MW Reliability Backstop Procurement at FERC for a March 1 launch
PJM Interconnection filed an amended Reliability Backstop Procurement proposal with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on October 29, 2026. The filing targets a March 1, 2027 launch for a one-time procurement against a 6,831 MW shortfall.
Why it matters. PJM said the shortfall in its last two capacity auctions came from large-load demand growth that outpaced new supply. The source names no other side.
